Tito Vilanova has refused to be drawn into speculation over Arsenal midfielder Alex Song without ruling out a move for him this summer.
The Cameroonian international has been linked with a move to the Spanish giants recently after reports that the defensive midfielder was seeking a better pay from his current employers. Vilanova is a strong admirer of the Gunner star and is keen to add him to his squad as he looks to wrestle back the domestic title from arch rivals Real Madrid.
Barcelona were keen to bring in Athletic Bilbao star Javi Martinez and were ready to pay upto £25m for the highly rated versatile Spain international. But the young star ruled out a move to Camp Nou earlier committing his future to his present club in the process.
Song transformed himself into a fine player last term being one of the very few defensive midfielders to have 12 assists to his name. But Vilanova hinted at a possible deal when directly quizzed about the club’s desire to sign the Cameroonian.
‘I don’t like talking about players who are not in our squad,’ he replied.
‘There are many players outside of Barca who I like and I cannot talk about them. It would be a lack of respect to other clubs.’
