New Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers insists that there has not been any contact from Serie A heavyweights AC Milan for their English striker Andy Carroll.

Rodgers, who took over the Anfield job recently after quitting Swansea duties, has cleared the air over the former Magpies striker’s future. Carroll moved to the Merseyside club in the winter of 2011 following the departure of Fernando Torres to Chelsea and has since struggled to live upto the expectations. The striker, who cost them £35m, made 47 appearances for the Reds last season but managed to score only nine times.

“He is a very good young player and he will be linked with clubs with them because he is such a good player,” said Rodgers.

“It is something I have spoken to him about [while he is still] on his holidays so he knows exactly where he stands.

“I haven’t had anything from AC Milan at all.”

Liverpool have been pretty quiet in the transfer market but are likely to make their first move this week by signing Roma striker Franco Borini.
