Javi Martinez is set to turn down a move to the Premier League after Bayern Munich have established contact with the La Liga side and are close to sealing the transfer.

Manchester clubs United and City have been tracking the 23 year old for a long time who was one of the mainstays in the Bilbao side which reached two cup finals last season, Europa and Copa del Rey. Sir Alex Ferguson is determined to win back the Premier league title from their city neighbors and had identified Martinez as a potential candidate to fill up the vacant slot in the center of midfield. With Darren Fletcher having no return date yet and Anderson failing to impress ever since his move from Porto, Fergie had been preparing a move for the talented young star. This news will only compound the problems at Old Trafford as Real Madrid are believed to have won the race to sign Croatian midfielder Luka Modric, another United transfer target this summer.

The versatile Spaniard who can also play in the defense is willing to move to Bundesliga and with Bayern aiming a major reshuffle in their squad following a disappointing loss in the Champions’ League final, they are willing to meet Bilbao’s demands of £25m. Bayern are determined to wrestle back the Bundesliga title from Dortmund the coming season and have prioritized the signing of a midfielder this summer.
