Skrtel Takes Decision Regarding City’s Interest

Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel has underlined his desire to continue playing for them after being linked with a move away from Merseyside in recent weeks.

The 27 year old won his first silverware at the club lasts season since moving from Zenit in 2008 when Liverpool defeated Cardiff on penalties to lift the Carling Cup. Premier League champions Manchester City are in the lookout for a new defender and are believed to be keen on Skrtel but the player has come out to reject any advances.

The player’s agent had recently expressed his concern for Liverpool’s current state of affairs yet reassured his commitment towards the club. New manager Brendan Rodgers considers the player as a key figure in the coming season and wants to tie him down to a long term contract.

I will be leaving for Liverpool on July 6. I am very excited about new season,’ Skrtel told his personal website.

‘I hope we will be ready and this time it will be much better than in the last one.

‘There is also speculation about my exit from Liverpool but I can say that there was no offer on the table yet and we didn’t hold talks with any club.’

Liverpool have been linked to a host of players this summer but are yet to make any signing yet.
