La Liga side Athletic Bilbao have been given a massive boost by winger Markel Susaeta after the Spaniard extended his stay at the club turning down offers from several European sides.
Last season’s runners up in the Europa League, Athletic Bilbao, have been depleted considerably by the departure of their talismanic midfielder Javi Martinez while frontman Fernando Llorente insists he would not be signing an extension at the club. Amidst this, 24 year old Susaeta has committed his future to the club after agreeing a new deal.
The winger impressed many last season earning many admirers in the process including Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson as he performed well over two legs against the Red Devils last season. Arsenal and Chelsea were also believed to be monitoring the midfielder but Susaeta seems to be happy at San Mames.
With [coach Marcelo] Bielsa on the bench I have grown considerably,” he told Spanish newspaper AS.
“I have offers from several leading clubs in Europe, including in England. But I have that clear desire to continue in Bilbao, so I renewed my contract.
“I’ve been coming here every day for 16 years and I feel very comfortable and happy. I am Athletic, I am very happy at the club, with my colleagues, the people and San Mames.”
