Ricky Van Wolfswinkel is likely to be at the center of a three way tug of war after Napoli entered the race against United and Liverpool to sign him this summer.
The 23 year old was expected to pen down a new contract at his club which would include a higher buyout clause but the talks ended in a deadlock. The player’s agent Louis Laros had earlier confirmed the interest of plenty of clubs in Europe and it was believed the Premier League duo of Manchester United and Liverpool are heading the race.
The highly rated Dutch young star netted 6 goals in 13 appearances for the Lions in the Europa Cup last season and caught the eye of plenty. Napoli, who are set to lose their talismanic midfielder Ezequiel Lavezzi to PSG, are keen to fill in the vacancy left by the Argentinian with the Sporting striker. Although it won’t be a like for like replacement, Napoli officials have faith in his versatility and are confident that he would be able to adapt into an attacking midfielder’s role.
The contract situation can only prove advantageous for the clubs in question but it is going to interesting to see if Napoli manage to steal a march on the English duo.
